July into October. Volunteers out in the wetlands at Overton, Key Pittman, Kirch and Cummings Lake, wading to traps and putting bands on birds.
About 350 ducks were banded by late August. No experience needed. Volunteers learned hands on, working alongside the biologists.
Dove banding ran in the same stretch.
Why it matters for wildlife: every band that comes back tells biologists where a bird went and how long it lived. That data helps manage seasons and protect the wetlands these birds depend on.
Real conservation happens in the field.
