May 15 to 17. Montezuma Peak, Esmeralda County. Sage hills, soft dirt, and a trailer full of tanks.
The plan was four guzzlers. The crew set all four in a single day. Each one is a walk-in tank system that holds about 500 gallons. Dedicated tool boxes, electric band saws and spare blades for every crew made the difference. Dig, set, plumb, build the apron, fence it, move to the next.
NDOW led the project. Quail Forever helped feed the crew. A big group of WHIN volunteers, from first-timers to old hands, put in the work.
Montezuma made seven new guzzlers on the Nevada landscape for WHIN this year, with Milk Ranch still to come. That is water for mule deer, chukar and quail in country where summer leaves very little behind.
Four builds. One day. Zero excuses.
