The Wildlife and Habitat Improvement of Nevada (WHIN) conservation group has been actively enhancing local ecosystems by building innovative floating island habitats for waterfowl. These floating islands are designed with a dual purpose: they provide food and shelter for waterfowl through the integration of various plant species while also functioning as an aquaponics system to purify the water. Suspended off the lake bottom, these islands promote cleaner water for local game fish, fostering a healthier aquatic environment. This initiative not only supports local wildlife but also improves the overall biodiversity and sustainability of Nevada’s waterways.
