Up in Pioche, at the Nevada Division of Forestry greenhouse, WHIN teamed up with NDF to turn a bare patch of soil into a powerhouse of wildlife forage. We fenced it, irrigated it, and tilled in compost to kickstart a strong grow plot of ‘Snowstorm’ forage kochia—a tall, protein-rich plant that holds up through deep snow and drought alike. This isn’t just a win for soil and seed—it’s a lifeline for mule deer and pronghorn that struggle through Nevada winters. Built with grit and purpose, this little greenhouse plot is now growing more than plants—it’s growing habitat.
